The promotion of Local Content is not unique to South Africa but rather an international trend that assists in stimulating the economy of a country. Therefore, some bids in respect of services, works or goods are designated for local production and content. These bids will contain a specific bidding condition that only locally produced goods, services, or works or locally manufactured goods with a stipulated minimum threshold for local production and content will be considered. A crucial aspect of Local Content is its verification, and the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) has been appointed as the verification agency for Local Content in SA.
For an understanding of the designated sectors together with their minimum thresholds, visit the dti Industrial Procurement page here http://www.thedtic.gov.za/sectors-and-services-2/industrial-development/industrial-procurement/
In order to successfully complete SBD6.2, bidders need to complete the LC (Local Content) documents in the following order:-
The successful bidder will need to continually maintain records to certify imported content and update the content information during the contract period.
